Community Update: Civic Core, Hawk Signal & DC PLUG
Hi Neighbors,
I hope you’re looking forward to the fall weather arriving this week! I wanted to share a few quick updates and follow up on some community requests.
Chevy Chase Civic Core Site
The Mayor has submitted legislation to the DC Council regarding the proposed disposition and redevelopment of the Chevy Chase Civic Core, with the hearing process expected to begin mid-October.
The revised plan responds to community feedback by:
Increasing affordable housing to 90 of the 177 proposed units
Reducing the overall scale of the buildings
Modernizing the library and community center
Expanding green space

During Chevy Chase Day I received multiple complaints about the water fountain located outside. A work order placed for this issue (#878188).

Hawk Signal at Legation and Connecticut Ave.
Thank you to former Commissioner Connie Chang for her advocacy and previous efforts regarding the Hawk signal at Legation and Connecticut Ave.
This Hawk signal is being implemented during my time as Commissioner, and I have supported the installation and repeatedly requested that DDOT move it forward. I’m glad to share that the time has finally come! DDOT anticipates construction will be completed within the next four weeks.
This intersection is especially meaningful to me because I was involved in an accident there when my four-year-old child was in the car. It happened during rush hour when an impatient, speeding driver went around stopped traffic that was yielding to us. My car was totaled, but thankfully, my child and I were unharmed. I still think about what could have happened if someone had been in the crosswalk at the same time—they could have been caught between the two vehicles.
Having this Hawk signal at the intersection will improve safety for everyone, regardless of how they travel. I hope the many residents who have been waiting for this safety improvement are happy to hear this news.

Trash Removal — 3400/3500 Blocks of Livingston St.
I’ve reached out to DPW to ensure that residents who do not receive alley trash pickup are not missed this week due to construction on Livingston St.
Please submit a 311 request for missed pick up and keep your cans out until DPW has picked up the trash.
