Resources for Families in Need

Here are some links for those looking for food assistance: Food Assistance | DC, Capital Area Food Bank, DC Food Map, Food for All DC, Bread for the City, Martha's Table, DC Food Project, Food Pantries - Catholic Charities DC, How to Get Meals | Food & Friends, and Home | NW Community Food

If you’re not in need of food but looking to volunteer, I’ve volunteered with Martha’s Table, Capital Area Food Bank, and Northwest Community Food. This could also be a great opportunity for your students looking for community service hours. Northwest Community Food is always looking for volunteers and it is not far from our Chevy Chase community.

Here's information if you’re looking for employment:  Jobs Resource Center | DC,  Employment Resources - The Community Partnership, American Job Center in Washington, DC | CareerOneStop, Job Seekers | does, and LinkedIn: Log In or Sign Up

Furloughed workers impacted by the shutdown can file for unemployment insurance benefits through the Department of Employment Services (DOES). Initial claims can be filed online at dcnetworks.org. Visit does.dc.gov for more information.

DC launched TalentCapital.ai, a new regional initiative to connect residents, especially recently displaced workers, with opportunities that keep you in DC. Through the program, they’re offering personalized career coaching and training in fields like AI, data science, and project management. DC residents who are looking for your next career move are encouraged to explore the site and see what it offers

District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

I would like to thank the District Department of Transportation for completing a sidewalk/drain request that was damaged some time last week at Nevada and Patterson. The request was reported and DDOT responded timely.

Department of Public Works

Leaf collection is underway in Section A. Rake your leaves into the tree box or curb in front of your home. Paper bags are welcome if you’d like, but please don’t use plastic bags, as they can’t be composted. Check your collection section and sign up for updates to stay informed.

DC Go/Friends of Bus Transit (FoBus)

On October 25th, Friends of Bus Transit (FoBus) and goDCgo are hosted a free travel training at the Chevy Chase Neighborhood Library. I’ve attached the presentation where meeting participants learned how to navigate public transit, use trip-planning apps, and access senior and low-income discount programs.
